Daryl Upsall

Chief Executive

Over the 18 years prior to founding his international consultancy Daryl Upsall has successfully founded and managed the fundraising, communications and advocacy operations in over 37 countries for international development and campaigning organizations.

Formerly, the International Fundraising and Marketing Director for Greenpeace International for seven and a half years and on occasions acting International Communications Director Daryl and his team were responsible for turning around Greenpeace's financial fortunes, doubling the global net income and raising more than $1 billion for the organisation in the process.

He started fundraising as a teenager at school organising benefit concerts for local charities, moving on to be a promoter of major pop concerts and beer festivals whilst a student at Cambridge University.  His professional fundraising career began as raising funds for the Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign  and organisations working in other Central American countries during the early 1980's which frequently took him into some of the most war torn and dangerous parts of this turbulent region.  He followed this by becoming the Head of Fundraising and Communications for the international development and advocacy charity War on Want, founded by former UK Prime Minister Harold Wilson.

In the early 1990's he was responsible for establishing the first professional fundraising in the HIV/AIDS sector for what is now the world's leading HIV/AIDS organisation The Terrence Higgins Trust. He used this experience to train HIV/AIDS organisations in the UK and Scandinavia. He has also had a successful career in lobbying and advocacy for third world development groups, womens' rights, advocacy organisations, political parties and liberation movements.

During his career Daryl has worked at the highest level of the political, business and entertainment world internationally and worked with such prominent figures as Nelson Mandela, Elton John, Harold Pinter, Julie Christie, Neil Kinnock etc.
