Who We Are
Let us introduce you to Chris Washington-Sare
Senior Consultant
Chris is a consultant with specialist expertise in helping organisations think clearly about complex strategic planning issues. He has extensive fundraising, marketing and communications experience, having worked for over 30 years in the not-for-profit, commercial, arts and education sectors. He has worked with national and international organisations both large and small – for example: Plan International, Transparency International, Shelter and the Syrian Centre for Media Freedom.
Chris has worked as Director of Fundraising for organisations including Greenpeace Australia Pacific, World Animal Protection and Sense, managing large and diverse teams of people. During the course of his career, he has helped organisations develop resource mobilisation and income generation plans in countries including Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, UK, Romania, Syria, Malawi, India, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and Australia.
Chris has fundraising experience across an extremely broad of restricted and unrestricted channels including individual giving, high value donors, legacies, corporates, trusts and foundations and institutional sources. He has specialist expertise in developing strategy maps and balanced scorecards, direct marketing, profiling and segmentation and financial modelling.
For the last 10 years Chris was worked as a consultant advising NPOs on a broad range of strategic planning, communications and team development issues. For example, with Amnesty International he developed a global income generation plan, wrote of a global fundraising policy, and devised a global gift screening process. These types of assignments not only required a high degree of technical expertise but also the ability to build trusting relationships with a broad range of stakeholders from board members through to grassroots programme staff.
As a consultant, Chris has seen that when building effective strategic plans, motivated and engaged people need to work well together. For this reason, Chris’s assignments often are a blend of strategy plan development and coaching or mentoring of high performing teams. To support this, Chris is accredited to administrate Myers Briggs (MBTI) personality assessments to help people better understand how they interact with the world around them.
