Helping CIVIC to protect civilians

We are very proud to have worked with the Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC) in 2021 on the appointment of three senior roles. This fantastic new team will be leading their ambitious five-year goal to champion a significant reduction in conflict-related civilian harm.  Michael Fuhrer as Senior Director, Operations; Marta Martinelli as Senior Director, Programs and Liz Ramey as Chief of Staff.

What are the new hires most looking forward to do in their roles?

“Getting to know the people that manage programs on the ground and their perspective is a first priority, followed closely by becoming better acquainted with the organizational and executive team’s needs in terms of program management”, explained Marta Martinelli about what she is most looking forward to doing in her new role. Prior to CIVIC, Marta was Head of Team EU External Policies at Open Society Foundation.

Liz Ramey has over 10 years’ experience working to strengthen civil society and good governance in the US and abroad, with experience spanning Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. She is very “excited to help CIVIC improve its organizational culture and processes” as their new Chief of Staff. “I am grateful to Daryl Upsall International for shepherding the hiring process along smoothly and efficiently”, she added.

As the new Senior Director of Operations, Mike Fuhrer is responsible for leading CIVIC’s global financial, safety & security, administrative, grant compliance, and human resource functions. Mike has over 25 years’ experience in the humanitarian and development sector at country office, regional, and HQ level. Prior to joining CIVIC, Mike was CARE International’s Managing Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa and before that he served as the Country Director for CARE International in Pakistan.
