Daryl Upsall

Daryl is president of the Consulting division and CEO of the Recruitment one. He has over 36 years’ experience of successfully founding and managing fundraising, communications and advocacy operations for over 230 NPOs in some 62 countries. He is known for his international leadership and innovation in fundraising and his role as an international ambassador for the fundraising profession.

Daryl provides high level strategic advice and mentoring to Board Chairs, CEOs and senior management team members of many of the world’s leading international and national non-profit organisations.

As International Fundraising Director for Greenpeace International he was responsible for turning around Greenpeace’s global income, doubling the global net income whilst raising more than $1 billion for the environment in the process. Daryl’s team introduced new fundraising tools and were the innovators of such as face to face fundraising and digital fundraising as well as adding legacies, telephone fundraising and major gift fundraising into the organisation’s fundraising mix.

In the 1980s he worked as a Director of Fundraising, Campaigns and Communications in the international development NPO, War on Want and in 1990 he launched the first professional fundraising for HIV/AIDS in Europe with The Terrence Higgins Trust. He has had a successful career in lobbying and advocacy for development NPOs, women’s’ rights, advocacy organisations, and liberation movements. He has worked with the likes of Nelson Mandela, Elton John, Queen and numerous presidents, prime ministers and other world leaders and international celebrities.

He has founded and co-owns several fundraising agencies providing face to face, telephone and digital fundraising services in Spain and in several other markets. In Spain alone, these have raised in excess of 1 billion Euros for non-profit clients.

He is a regular speaker at the leading international and national conferences around the world, having presented in over 30 countries and writes articles for many of the world’s leading magazines, journals and blogs on fundraising, philanthropy and development issues.

For the International Fundraising Congress (IFC) he has served as the Spain Country Ambassador and former IFC Advisory Group member for the Resource Alliance and former Board Member of the Asociación Española de Fundraising (AEF). He served on the International Board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) in the USA where he served as Vice-Chair, responsible for the Center for Fundraising Innovation (formerly the Professional Development Division) until the end of 2016 when his four-year Board term of service was completed.

He has been a member of the Institute of Fundraising (UK) since 1987 where he was made a Fellow (FInstF) in 2010 in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the fundraising profession over many years
