Who We Are

Let us introduce you to Michele Alexander

Michele Alexander

Global Fundraising Leadership Advisor

Michele is a leading non-profit executive with extensive experience in planning, capacity building, board and governance support, development and fundraising.  She has extensive experience with (U)HNWI and has managed multiple teams across the global.

Michele led her former organization from a small INGO to one of the world’s leading human rights groups.  Her background includes building committee structures in 20 cities in the Americas, Asia, MENA, and Europe. She created the largest community of volunteer support from individuals who are opinion leaders; committees which provided not only financial support but also a network willing to speak out on the issues and were willing to use their own connections to advance the cause.

Michele has more than 25 years of experience in staff and volunteer partnerships, supported the Executive Director in the management of a global organization, and positioned the organization for significant future growth.  She also has extensive experience in managing potential donor conflicts, and was a lead in protecting the organization’s reputation.

Michele is known for her commitment to social justice causes, for her ethical standards in building a donor community, and for the transparency she brings to her work with all of her constituents, staff and donors.  Her motto is “always tell the truth, even if it hurts.”

Recently retired from Human Rights Watch where she was both Deputy Executive Director for Development & Global Initiatives, as well as Chief Development Officer, her department also led on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion issues relative to both the staff and the global donor base.  She was formerly Vice President for corporate fundraising at CARE, USA.  Prior to joining CARE, she was an attorney in New York.  She is also a volunteer for a local environmental group and a food bank in her community.
